Getting Your Space Ready

After setting up your budget you need to start preparing the space needed for the floor installation. Whether you wanted to install the floor by yourself or you wanted to have professional installers do it you should make sure the area needed for the installation is cleared and free of any obstacles. New flooring will give you a good refreshment and a good feeling of seeing something new that is why you should make sure that your flooring experience is a good one. Make sure to have the full preparations ready before the actual installment. Here are a few advices to consider when preparing for the installation:

Preparing the room

Start preparing the room that you want to install your flooring in by removing all furniture and anything fragile. If you have something that can’t be removed, you need to inform the installers so they are prepared for taking the right measurements. Not only do you need to remove the furniture and items on the ground, you also need to remove the hangings on the wall to prevent them from falling during the drilling of the ground. If you have any electronic appliances in the room make sure you disconnect them before the installation. It’s important to consider all these procedures during the installation to stay safe.\

Preparing the floor

After you’re done preparing the room and clearing it you should now clear all the floorings to prepare for the new floor. Sometimes there will be height changes when changing from one floor to another. These height changed might be made for a door to open and close. You can have someone clear the old flooring for you, or you can do it by yourself, either way make sure that it’s free of nails, dirt and staples. Some types of floorings need to be completely removed to install the new ones, others can be kept and the new flooring can be installed above.

Considering a subfloor?

If you are considering a subfloor you need to make sure you have the special preparations and arrangements needed for the installation of it. The sub-floor is placed under your flooring to extend its durability and provide heating so you need to make sure the area is cleared out of everything. Before installation you need to make sure the area under your sub floor is clear and clean of debris, dirt, marks, cracks, you also need to make sure it’s dry and at the same level. If your floor wasn’t cleaned well, it may contain certain bacteria, allergens, dust and mold that can prevent the subfloor from properly being fixed into place and cause it be harmful in the area of installation. Make sure that you install the right sub-floor for the flooring you chose so that you can properly extend your flooring’s life.

Taking the right measurements

After you have done clearing everything out of the way you can start measuring the area where you want to install your flooring. This is the most important part of the whole room preparation process because you don’t want to buy too little flooring or buy too much flooring and let it go to waste. Here are a few steps that you can consider for measuring you area:

Check the general size and shape of the room

Rooms have different sizes and shapes there are L-shaped rooms, rectangular rooms, square rooms and so on. You need to determine the size and shape because there’s a measurement for each one. The easiest shape to measure is a rectangle, and most rooms are rectangular so if your room wasn’t in a rectangular shape you can break it into small rectangles and measure it. If you have any obstacles in the middle make sure to consider them. You can make a sketch of your room to make it easier to look it and don’t forget to add the obstacles.

Start measuring and calculating

Start your measurements by measuring the width and length. The calculations are really easy in this step if your measuring a rectangular room, you just have to multiply the width and length. If you divided your room into small rectangles you can multiply each length and width and then you can add all those numbers together.
